Ever wish you could quickly look up a media file’s detailed information, such as bitrate, video codec, audio codec, aspect ratio, duration, audio tag info, or anything else you might imagine?

You might already know that MediaInfo gives you detailed information about your media files. But what you may not know about is MediaTab, a Windows explorer extension that inserts MediaInfo data into a new file/properties tab.

How it works: right click a media file (video or audio files) then select properties from the context menu. Next, select “Media Tab” and press the “Analyze” button. Your file’s information should populate almost instantly.

Tree or tree: Media Tab offers two possible views; “Text” and “Tree” (the latter shown in the screenshot above).

Export data: easily to text or HTML, and/or copy to the clipboard.

The verdict: a nice little Windows tweak, whether you need to access your media files’ detailed information frequently or occasionally, you will like this one. (If it never occurred to you to look into your media files or still don’t know what this is for, I’d skip it.)
