Most gamers know Curse as the all-purpose hub for gearing up your game and tricking it out with addons and other client (or server) modifications that really bring an all-new and advantageous edge to the way you play. Their newest interest in Minecraft has brought a whole new audience to the community.
One little tool that doesn’t get enough shine in the MMO community is the Curse Client. The Curse client is Curse, bundled all up in one little program, that will allow instant access to installing mods and managing your games. I just started using it last week and I’ve been thoroughly impressed.
Get the Curse Client now!
Curse Client is available on both the Mac and Windows platforms. It currently supports World of Warcraft, Warhammer Alliance, Runes of Magic, Rift, Skyrim, and Oblivion; some of the top names in MMORPG today.Features of this awesome tool include:
- Instant downloading and installation of any supported games’ addons in a simple interface that won’t lag in gameplay.
- Track when your addons have been updated and easily update them with a single click.
- Automatically backup your addons so that you can have peace of mind.
- Synchronize your addons across multiple devices
Clicking “Get More Addons” will download the Curse’s database of addons. From there, go to a specific addon and click the name. You can click the “Description” button to read more about it or just click the “Install” button to immediately install the addon.
One-click installations really beat having to download archives and extract them into your game’s folder. This is especially annoying when you’re running UAC on Vista or Windows 7 and can’t extract directly to the Program Files folder. What a pain! This is a real cure, though.
After installing addons, you can view all of your currently-installed addons if you just click on your game’s title in the left-hand menu. From there, you can right click an addon name to perform several actions, like instantly updating or uninstalling that particular addon.
If you’re using Curse Client for World of Warcraft, let me recommend that one of the first addons you install should be Addon Control Panel. Installing this addon adds yet another level of addon management into the game itself.
Upon doing so, you can access your Game Menu (typically done by pressing the Esc key) and see that you now have the “AddOn” button. Clicking this button will give you a panel where you can enable or disable addons, and see which are the addons you have installed and are currently using. This is a great solution if you want to see if a particular addon is giving you low FPS, etc. It definitely beats completely restarting the client.
Curse Client is a godsend to those of us obsessed with easily customizing our in-game experience. Word is that it’ll be available for Minecraft next, so look out for that! If Curse Client has helped you, or you’d like to share some tips or addons, hit the comments.
