Three Ways To Install Google Earth In Ubuntu 11.04

Google Earth package is not available by default for installation via the Ubuntu Software Center. Therefore, one has to resort to third party packages for installing Google Earth. In this post we will tell you how to conveniently install Google Earth in Ubuntu 11.04 using 3 easy methods.

Installation From Deb Package
The easiest method to install Google Earth in Ubuntu seems to be the available Deb package from the Google Earth website. You can launch this package and install Google Earth. However, installing Google Earth from the simple Deb file does not always work and may hang several core system processes. If you can’t install Google Earth from simple Deb package, then check out method number #2 below. You can download the Deb package from here.


Installation From Terminal
Open the Terminal and enter the following commands to download Google Earth.

sudo apt-get install googleearth-package lsb-core
sudo make-googleearth-package --force

Now head over to the downloaded package (check your Home drive or Downloads directory) and enter the following command in the Terminal by replacing the word “File Path” with the location of your Deb package.

sudo dpkg -i /Deb File/googleearth_6.0.3.2197+0.6.0-1_i386.deb

Installation Using Bleeding Edge
If you are unable to install Google Earth using the first method and find the second procedure too complex. Then you can always install Google Earth from Bleeding Edge, which allows installing applications which are not available from Ubuntu repositories.
