Do you get way too many notification emails from your favorite social services? Is it always “Uncle Henry needs you to perform CPR on his sheep in FarmVille!” or “Bob Thagyudunno’s birthday is today!” Gets annoying, doesn’t it?
Fortunately, a couple of guys put their brains together and came up with Notification Control – your one-stop shop for getting rid of all of your least favorite junk email. Keep in mind that Notification Control is an incredibly basic site. However, with something like this, that’s all you really need.
Super Basic Function
With Notification Control, it is what it is – what you see is what you get. Basically, Notification Control is just a set of links on one page, each one seemingly directing you to an account-related service. At first glance, this may not seem exactly useful, but if you take a closer look, you’ll notice something a little unique.
As you may know, finding the shut-off function for email notifications can sometimes be like the search for the Holy Grail. What the creators of Notification Control have done is found almost each and every single one of these specific settings pages, slapped them on one website, and presented it to you, the general public. How does this help you, though?
Typically, if you’re a Twitter user, a Facebook user, or a YouTube user, you will likely already be logged in when you open your browser. If you’re tired of your email notifications, you can simply go to Notification Control, click through all of your respective services, and shut off all of their notifications in one single run. The site has a simple purpose, but it also offers ingenious practicality.
Simple Clean Design
Notification Control is pretty much a one-shot site, so it keeps the look simple. (Granted, unlike some other one-shot sites, you can actually make use of it.) All you’ll get are two columns with the current services, and even the ad placement is put in a decent spot. It’s just out of the way – visible, but not too distracting.
Given this simple design, Notification Control has obviously made room for new installments. Although I’m not entirely sure what other features the creators could put on here besides what presently exists, I also would have never thought of a site that allows me to get rid of my email notifications all at once. With that being said, I’m quite confident these creative minds could come up with something.
Speaking of adding on, the creators have offered a link for you to email them about additional services to add. Gotta love customer service, right?
Although I do like Notification Control, I sometimes do worry about the design itself. Honestly, the design is very clean, but I fear that with its simplicity, it could be mistaken as a scam site or a phishing site. However, I can assure you that I have checked all the web URLs for the links to these services, and all of them go straight to the source. This is just a simple visual thing, and I’m certainly not saying the site is ugly – it isn’t. It just may be good to play around with the design a little to make people a little more comfortable clicking those links (in which some cases they may have to type in an email and password.)
Conclusion
Notification Control is an extremely simple little site, but it certainly packs a big punch. You won’t find yourself using it much (if not only once), but it’s definitely something worth sharing with your friends.
