A little over 3 months ago, I hit you guys with a post that introduced 10 really awesome recipes for the ifttt web service. At the beginning of this year, ifttt managed to secure $1.5 million from investors. Talk about a huge step for this startup! That’s some serious funding for an awesome web service. Since our last recap, ifttt has added channels for Buffer, BuzzFeed, and more. I reported over 5,000 publicly-shared recipes. They’re now well over the 17,000 mark! Growth.
With such a branching out, users are finding how to use the service in innovative and clever ways. One of the most useful ways that ifttt is leveraged is in finding free deals, discounts, and sales. Let me share a few of my favorite tech-related recipes that deal in saving you more money online.
When a new book is added to Kindle Top 100 Free eBooks, send me an email.
This is a must-have recipe for anyone with a Kindle. You can’t beat free books, and the Kindle Top 100 often has shakeups so it is ever-changing. Stay on top of your game and snag those free eBooks with this recipe.
When a new album is added to Amazon’s Top Free MP3 Albums, send me an email.
Here’s another for those of you who enjoy those freebies that Amazon so often dishes out. I’ve used Amazon for their free MP3s and I can say it’s a quality service. Sometimes the musical tastes may be a little obscure and quirky, but there’s nothing wrong with trying something new every now and then.

There’s a huge, loyal following to this recipe. Android is becoming a strong, strong presence to rival the iOS platform. Every single day, Amazon highlights an app that they put on the house, 100% free for you to try and keep. You’re not going to see the big names on here, but if you pay attention you may find an app that you’ve always wanted and never knew existed.
Send all Free Fridays Nook books from the Nook Blog to Gmail
This one is restricted to the Gmail email platform, but if you’re not using Gmail by now then what in the hell is wrong with you? I have neither device, but I personally find the Nook Color to be a more desirable eReader than the Kindle. It’s only fair that they also share free books, and for the Nook it occurs on every single Friday. No more calendars, just get this recipe.
IM me when new FREE iPhone App is available
FreeAppAlert is a service that we’ve highlighted before. It’s truly awesome when it comes to exposing paid apps gone free! With this recipe, why even bother checking? Just have ifttt send you a Google Talk IM when a new freebie drops. Can’t be any easier.
Steam Sale SMS Alert
If your brain works like mine, you feel it is necessary to own a Steam account that is worth more than your first car. I actually made this recipe myself, just to stay current on these price drops. They happen often and they happen quickly. Might want to switch this one off during holidays though, could be a little bothersome waking up with 50 SMS messages that encourage you to buy video games!
Giveaway of the Day SMS Alert
GotD is an amazing website that gives away one piece of Windows (or if OSX is included, not often at all) shareware every single day, absolutely free. I use the website at least once a week and have saved tons using them. This is a must-have for software freaks!
Bits du Jour SMS Alert
Bits du Jour is the higher-end version of our last recipe. These aren’t free deals, but they are huge discounts on some of the most popular and useful software you will be able to find online. This one does include OSX, also. Like GotD, it has saved me a fortune.
